What is preventive cardiology?
Preventive cardiology focuses on early detection, prevention and rehabilitation of heart disease. It lowers the risk of heart attacks and strokes by helping individuals understand the risk factors that affect their heart.
Why preventive cardiology?
Heart disease is the leading cause of death for men and women in the United States, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Heart disease is responsible for about one in four deaths.
Once a patient’s risk has been established, various therapeutic options are available, including revascularization procedures, advanced lipid medications, clinical trials and novel therapeutics. Patients are often able to come off of certain outpatient medications, and some patients with significant high risk features, are able to participate in trials of new lipid therapeutics.
